  Friendship bench detail of tiles

The Friendship Bench is a special place in the playground where a child can go when they want someone to talk to.

We worked with children at Tollgate Primary School to design and make terracotta floor tiles on the theme of ‘friendship’ and ‘feelings’. The children wrote poems and captions with illustrations, which they then painted onto the floor tiles. The bench itself is built from sturdy ‘green oak’. It has a planting bed behind with an assortment of plants including climbers.

Valerie Noble, the head teacher tells us that the children absolutely love the Friendship Bench, and were given an assembly about how to use it. It is also very popular with parents waiting to collect their children from school.
